5 smooth stones + the Covenant

Updated: Aug 11, 2022

I always wondered what the significance of King David using “5 smooth stones” to defeat Goliath was. I pondered this on and off for almost a year lol. We know how the story goes, Saul is being stressed out by the Philistines army who in the past stole the Ark of the covenant from the Israelite camp, during that time period David is anointed by Samuel the Prophet and Priest. It was shortly after that, that the spirit of Yah departed from Saul (Yahuah rejected him as king) and David was placed in Saul’s service. Goliath (the enemy of Israel) was a Giant, literally and figuratively speaking… there was no one who could defeat him, or so he thought in his mind when he made the pronouncement “Choose a man and have him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects….” (1 Samuel 17:8-9). It was then that David the 8th born to Jesse stepped up to the plate asking the elders at the camp “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that should defy the armies of the living God?” The spirit of Yah stirs up his confidence and he tells Saul “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”

The climax of the story is then showcased as David steps out in the King’s tunic, coat of armor, and bronze helmet. He placed the 5 smooth stones in his bag and went on to kill the giant.

“You come against me with a spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of Yahuah the Almighty, the Elohim of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day Yahuah will hand you over to me, and I will strike you down and cut off your head.”

Remember: David had 5 stones in his bag, but he only used 1 to defeat the enemy of his people. David Tells us that it wouldn’t be by the spear or javelin but by the name of the Almighty. The 5 stones, the covenant-keeping God, and His word which he sent to go before us

Yah was too thorough when he did this. Let’s go a little bit further back in the Old testament. I was listening to my sister in Christ Ebony Evans pray one day- and as always the spirit was using her to bring forth the message. She said Nehemiah stood up and confronted his enemies on the bases of the covenant. That’s it. No hocus pocus, definitely not by power or might. By Covenant and the spirit behind the words, The Most High spoke to him.

Well, the holy spirit led me to the answer I’d be pondering on- David defeated his enemies by standing on covenant. Look…

There were 5 highlighted instances where Yah established a covenant with the family of the earth he chose as his inheritance. They built altars made with uncut stones and his name was remembered at that place.

  1. With Noah in genesis (The Promise) Genesis 8:20

  2. With Abraham (unto generations) Genesis 13:4

  3. With Issac (established) Genesis 26:25

  4. With Jacob (Remember) Genesis 35:1-3

  5. With Moses (Yah is our Banner forever “DEFENSE”) Exodus 17:15

I urge you to take the time to read each of the passages of those scriptures, and see how the covenant that was initiated by each forefather by taking the instruction given, it was SET IN STONE!

That made me smile lol

And I mean we could wrap it up right here but I’m extra:))))

Let me show you how Ha’mashiach (Christ) has always been the gatekeeper of the covenant (HE IS THE WORD) it is when we pronounce and declare the covenant promises of YAH that we see Yahusha’s authority act on our behalf! After making it out of the wilderness Joshua (son of Nun) makes an altar with stone. Joshua 24:25 On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people and there at Shechem he drew up for them decrees and laws. (26) and Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak tree near the holy place of the law. *PAUSE*(we see Joshua taking the book of the law and making amendments or adding to it, and we see the same thing Yahusha did when he brought the Good News. Providing us with 2 new commandments (John 13:34 & Matthew 22:37-40)

Joshua (Yehoshua “Yah is deliverance)- Shadow of Yahushua (“Yah is Salvation”) (The Christ Architype)

I know y’all might want to say I’m reaching but The book of Joshua always refers to him as the son of Nun, which always made me think of Yahusha (Jesus, Yahushua…) The son of the living God. There are many Christ types in the scriptures the first one we see is with Melchizedek and Abraham. If you haven’t looked up or read about him in genesis, now is the time to do so! A very interesting part of the timeline is when he visits the father of our faith. To sum things up Hebrews 7:3 reads “He is without father or mother or genealogy; he has neither beginning of days nor end of life…. he continues a priest forever.

  • In the book of psalms, we find that David prophesied “Yahuah has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Psalm 110:4

So in essence Yahushua is the continuation of the everlasting priesthood that met with Abraham. Joshua's son of “Nun” just adds to the confirmation that Through him all things were made and without him, nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:3) Whew! I hope ya’ll caught that… you know I love a good tangent.

So, Joshua makes a significant declaration after the children of Israel make it past the Yarden (Jordan River): Joshua 21:44 “44 The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. 45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.” …This is the spirit of prophecy which is the revelation of Yahusha Ha’machisach.

Back to King David. When David used the word of Yahuah as his servant that day, the covenant fought his battle for him. I was not because of the smooth stone per se but what the stone actually represents!

The Rock eternal. “…. I come against you in the name of Yahuah the Almighty, the Elohim of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day Yahuah will hand you over to me, and I will strike you down and cut off your head.”

We know that time and time again Yah is the God of the living. The covenant with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob still stands. And the renewed covenant sealed by the blood of Yahusha is seen in our lives when we behave like David and Speak the word of Yah against our enemies.

AH! Sweet, sweet victory.

Shalom to you.
